Reality check: Is regenerative agriculture really going to fix our food system?

10:00 - 10:30
Regenerative agriculture is all the rage. From being a little used phrase just a few years ago, it is now one of the most cited business solutions. However, of the 50 agrifood corporations that mention regenerative agriculture in their wider sustainability strategy, only 36% have quantifiable targets in place, and only 16% mention metrics for measuring progress (FAIRR, 2023).

In this session, we’ll take a step back and assess commitments to regenerative agriculture in context. We’ll discuss:

  • Where we stand in terms of agreed definitions and frameworks
  • The latest data and metrics on impact
  • How far regenerative practices can realistically be scaled, beyond existing pilots
  • The greenwashing risk surrounding regen and the associated challenges in communication and implementation of corporate commitments
