Global Plastics Treaty: An update on adoption and implementation

10:10 - 10:30
The latest INC-5 negotiations in Busan did not provide answers that the industry needed. Instead, the can has been kicked to INC-5.2 which will be held in early 2025. There is currently a clear divide between the nations that are seeking a deal that accelerates action, and those that are not.

In May, we hope to have an agreement in place, and we hope to be talking about adoption. But either way, this session will address the state of play and what comes next. We’ll discuss what the Global Plastics Treaty means in critical areas such as harmful and problematic materials and chemicals; requirements in product design; public/private financial flows to developing nations; and crucially the mechanisms to improve over time.
