Collective action on climate: How fashion brands can support suppliers in a just decarbonisation strategy

11:00 - 11:45
Major transformation is required to decarbonize apparel supply chains and address Scope 3 emissions. While the industry acknowledges the need for value chain decarbonization, some fashion brands are shirking their responsibilities. According to Remake's Fashion Accountability Report 2024, only 29% of companies can demonstrate financial support for decarbonization efforts, and these initiatives are frequently opaque and limited in scale. Suppliers face relentless pricing pressures and unpredictable cash flows, hindering their ability to invest in long-term climate projects. So, what are we going to do about it?

In this session, our panellists will discuss how brands can take supply chain partners with them in a just climate transition.

  • Science-Based Targets: How short- and long-term targets can enable both brands and suppliers to take actionable steps.
  • Facilitating risk sharing: Overcoming the free rider problem with approaches that promote collective action in a fragmented supply chain.
  • Empowering workers' rights: To sustain genuine change, it is crucial to acknowledge the perspectives of the 300 million people employed along the value chain and integrate their voices in developing local solutions.
