As CEO, Shannon Bouton oversees Delterra’s work with cities, communities and the private sector to transform recycling and waste management systems in the Global South. Working across Brazil, Argentina and Indonesia, Delterra is effectively improving environmental outcomes and boosting circularity while benefiting health, livelihoods and the economy. Previously, Shannon worked for 15 years at McKinsey & Company, where she served a range of public- and private-sector clients on buildings energy efficiency, transportation strategy, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. She was instrumental in founding McKinsey’s Sustainability practice and the Cities Special Initiative, creating tools that empower cities in achieving economic development, climate action planning, and sustainable transportation. A field biologist by training, Shannon spent her early career working with grassroots communities on conservation in Brazil. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Michigan and is a dual citizen of the United States and Brazil.
