The carbon credits debate: What is the role of the carbon markets in net zero?

09:00 - 09:45
The SBTi maintains a position that carbon credits cannot be used to meet science-based targets. But the organisation is currently undergoing research into the use of environmental attribute certificates. An update in July concluded that more research was necessary, and results are expected in 2025.

So, what is the role of the carbon markets in net zero? And how should business respond as they’re left in a state of relative limbo? In this session, our speakers will debate:

  • How will voluntary carbon markets continue to evolve and what is their role in corporate net zero targets?
  • How to balance supply chain investment in climate action with investment in offsets
  • Not all carbon credits are equal: How to identify the right projects that deliver real impact
  • What business needs to know about evolving policy, data, technology, and market conditions
