Dr. Thiwanka De Fonseka is a highly accomplished sustainability expert and academic with extensive experience in the apparel industry. His expertise includes environmental management, decarbonization, supply chain sustainability, water quality, chemical sustainability, corporate sustainability strategies, and global sustainability policies. A sextuple graduate, he holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Sustainability from Vern University, Croatia; an MBA from London Metropolitan University, UK; an M.Sc. in Environmental Management from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka; an MSc in Project Management from the Asia e University, Malaysia; a Graduateship in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, Sri Lanka; and a BSc in Applied Sciences from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. He is also a member of the Institute of Environmental Professionals, Sri Lanka; the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK; and the American Chemical Society.
Professionally, Dr. De Fonseka has over a decade of experience in the apparel sector, having held key sustainability leadership roles at Komar, ZDHC, Marks & Spencer, and MAS Holdings. He currently works as the Chief Sustainability Officer at Komar. Also, he was and currently serves as an active member of multiple advisory councils in global sustainability organizations, such as Cascale.
Dr. Thiwanka De Fonseka’s expertise closely aligns with the 2026 themes of the Innovation Forum USA conference: resilient supply chains, circularity, and climate accountability. With a Doctorate in Sustainability and over a decade of experience leading various sustainability initiatives in the apparel sector, he brings hands-on knowledge of embedding sustainability across complex global supply chains to redefine responsible business through measurable climate impact, traceability, and equitable value-chain transformation.
