Brittainy McFarland

Senior Director of Materials Innovation

Under Armour

Brittainy McFarland is the Senior Director of Materials Innovation at Under Armour, where she leads the development of advanced materials across apparel and accessories while partnering closely with design to shape seasonal trends and product direction.
With deep expertise in material construction, design and trend integration, and sustainability, McFarland is known for translating technical innovation into consumer-relevant performance and aesthetic solutions. She also brings a strong understanding of global sourcing and operational efficiency, driving material consolidation strategies that streamline the business while elevating product performance.
Over her tenure, McFarland has played a pivotal role in redefining Under Armour’s women’s apparel through a more intentional women’s point of view. She has led teams that have advanced the textile industry through new yarns and constructions that reduce fiber shedding and support circular design, including innovations that create stretch without reliance on elastane. She also pioneered a first-of-its-kind partnership between materials and design, establishing a biannual material aesthetic trend process that aligns innovation with seasonal storytelling and supplier collaboration.
McFarland has been with Under Armour for more than 11 years. She began her career with hands-on experience at a fabric mill, where she worked across knitting and material processing and contributed to the development of the Under Armour’s original Heatgear fabric. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering with a minor in Design from Philadelphia University.
