Critical minerals boom risks second funding gap as governance support shrinks

Governments are pouring billions of dollars into critical minerals projects in a race to secure new supply chains, but a parallel pullback in funding for governance and community engagement could ultimately slow the very projects policymakers are trying to accelerate, according to a new report by the Trust, Accountability and Inclusion (TAI) Collaborative.

The joint US-Ukrainian reconstruction investment fund has sealed its first critical minerals deal ‌alongside four other new projects, one of its top US officials told Reuters.

The fund, established as part of the minerals pact the two countries signed in April last year following a push by US President ​Donald Trump, is focused on five strategic sectors from minerals and defence to ​energy and infrastructure.

Primark has agreed a multi-year deal with textile recycling company Circ to introduce recycled polyester made from textile waste into its clothing from 2029.The agreement will be Primark’s first multi-year offtake deal with a textile-to-textile recycler.
