The challenge
While carbon projects are widely discussed, blue carbon solutions often remain overlooked.
Coastal ecosystems are among the most efficient natural carbon sinks, sequestering carbon up to 10 times faster than terrestrial forests, while also protecting coastlines, supporting fisheries, and providing critical biodiversity habitat. Yet these ecosystems are rapidly disappearing, and their protection remains underfunded in most climate strategies.
Corporate sustainability teams are beginning to recognise the value of blue carbon, but it still represents a small share of nature-based investments. Terraformation approached us to elevate awareness of blue carbon’s potential and position their solutions as high-impact, scalable interventions.
Objectives
- Raise awareness of blue carbon potential, by showcasing the unique role of mangroves, seagrasses and salt marshes in carbon sequestration, and position blue carbon ecosystems as essential but underfunded climate solutions.
- Highlight Terraformation’s leadership through the Keta Lagoon project in Ghana, demonstrating large-scale, community-led restoration with measurable carbon and socio-economic impact.
- Demonstrate community-first impact, with revenue sharing, job creation, and support for education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
- Attract partners and investment, underscoring that Terraformation offers scalable, high-quality projects ready for early corporate and financial backing.
Our approach
Leveraging our extensive network across core sustainability sectors, we worked with Terraformation to curate a strong and insightful panel that are working in blue carbon projects and provided a range of perspectives.
The inclusion of these respected organisations played a key role in driving high registration numbers, broadening the event’s appeal, and positioning Terraformation as a leading voice in blue carbon and nature-based solutions. As one of Terraformation’s key objectives was to attract partners, we offered an “opt-in” option: webinar attendees were asked if they would like to keep the conversation going with Terraformation.
Results
The partnership strengthened Terraformation as a leader in blue carbon solutions, showcasing its technical, governance, and financing expertise while illustrating the commercial and community value of scalable restoration projects such ReDAW in Ghana.
Through Innovation Forum’s network of sustainability professionals, the session reached senior decision-makers across corporate, finance, and ESG sectors, generating strong engagement and new leads – 87% of poll respondents requested follow-up from Terraformation.
Participation from North America, Europe, and sectors including agriculture, food, energy, fashion, and technology highlighted growing corporate interest in integrating blue carbon into climate strategies. The event strengthened Terraformation’s visibility, credibility, and partnership opportunities with corporates and investors alike.
The project helped Terraformation to:
- Position Terraformation as a credible and innovative partner for companies developing and investing in blue carbon and nature-based climate solutions.
- Showcase Terraformation’s technical, governance and financing expertise, strengthening its reputation as a thought leader in the blue carbon space.
- Engage Innovation Forum’s audience of 30,000+ sustainability professionals, generating new leads and strengthening relationships with key corporate stakeholders and investors.
- Demonstrate real-world impact by highlighting the ReDAW mangrove restoration project in Ghana and its measurable climate, community and biodiversity outcomes.
